Growing up in Mississippi, I witnessed both the importance and the challenges of healthcare early on. When my grandmother became bedridden, a home health nurse was assigned to care for her many medical needs. Despite the nurse’s dedication, there were days she couldn’t make it to work due to a shortage of nurses in the agency. On those days, my mother stepped in to care for my grandmother, despite having no formal training or healthcare background—just a determination to do what needed to be done.
This experience inspired me to start working in this field, to ensure that clients have enough staff to meet the needs of their loved ones.
