Do You Skip Breaks?

Why do we, especially HealthCare Professionals, overlook our own well-being? Is it because taking care of other’s needs takes precedence? Do you often skip breaks without even realizing break time has passed? Do skip breakfast or grab a granola bar instead of spending 15 minutes to enjoy a wholesome meal?

It is essential that those of us in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Nursing fields take care of our physical health and emotional health. Our fields require physical AND mental energy. It is crucial that we listen to our bodies to maintain energy levels and avoid burnout. Staying hydrated fueling the body with wholesome meals and snacks, moving or exercising frequently and getting enough sleep each night are all basic yet often skipped necessities. Even with hectic schedules It is critical to schedule time for physical selfcare.

 

Dedication to helping others is noble, skipping out on our own necessities can lead to mental & physical burnout. We need to schedule time for self-care. We need to remind ourselves and each other that taking care of ourselves is NOT a luxury, it is a NEED.
